Verizon FiOS Wins Cable Franchise in Abington, Massachusetts
The local board of selectmen in Abington, Massachusetts granted a local cable franchise to Verizon Communications last week, in a move that will bring effective competition to the community’s pay-TV market.
Verizon’s FiOS TV service, which delivers digital television signals over fiber optic cables, will now be available to about 5,000 households in the town, according to Verizon.
New York-based Verizon, which delivers numerous telecom services to customers throughout America, has been expanding its fiber-optic pay-TV service for over two years now, promoting itself as a viable alternative to traditional cable companies such as Comcast.
Verizon FiOS is now available in 63 communities in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
