Telenet won't raise bid for Interkabel
As a result of the non-binding bid by Belgacom on the television activities of Interkabel, Telenet sees no reason to modify its bid of 350 million Euros plus guarantees.
Telenet is of the opinion that it is a given that the Belgacom bid stands no chance due to competition regulations, and is nothing more than a delay tactic. Competition between ADSL technology and cable technology is the best guarantee for consumers. The European Commission is clearly of the same opinion. Competition would be fully undermined by a Belgacom bid. Consumers would ultimately have no choice other than Belgacom TV.
Besides, the so-called offer by Belgacom to share cable with Telenet is not even technically possible and highly implausible. It is also important to point out that the 350 million bid has already been deemed as fair and reasonable by both the intermunicipal companies’ own advisors as well as by independent experts.
Telenet will soon begin a procedure to bring Belgacom’s bid before the Competition Council in order to halt yet another in a long line of anti-competitive moves. Telenet will furthermore submit a significant damages claim with a regular court.
