Telecom Carriers Spend $36-Billion on Wireline Infrastructure Enhancement
Telecom service providers around the world spent more than $36 billion on equipment to enhance their wireline communications networks last year, according to a new report by Dell’Oro Group.
This represents 10% growth over 2006 spending, analysts said, and marks the greatest wireline infrastructure expenditure since 2000. The largest increases in capital spending were on optical transport and routers, markets which were led by Alcatel-Lucent and Cisco Systems, respectively.
IP voice equipment (including soft switches and media gateways) and carrier Ethernet switches also showed healthy growth, with Nokia Siemens and Nortel capturing the majority of IP equipment spending.
Among markets that declined in 2007 were broadband access and multi-service switching equipment, the Dell’Oro report found.
