Rockwell Collins to Add Jobs in Richardson
The Texas Enterprise Fund is awarding $1.67 million to communications and aviation electronics provider Rockwell Collins Inc. to expand its operations in Richardson and create 334 jobs, Gov. Rick Perry said Wednesday.
As part of the deal, Rockwell Collins will lease 90,000 square feet of space and invest more than $6.7 million in machinery and equipment for the new building.
The expansion will be located adjacent to an existing 276,000 square-foot facility owned by Rockwell Collins, where the company employs 900 people.
“Rockwell Collins’ expansion and commitment to create more than 330 new jobs is a strong indicator of our state’s vibrant economy and business-friendly climate,” Mr. Perry said.
Serving both commercial and government customers, Rockwell Collins made a $585 million profit in the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2007, up 23 percent compared with its previous fiscal year. The company had 2007 revenue of $4.42 billion, up 14 percent from the year before.
The company, which trades on the New York Stock Exchange, is based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and has about 20,000 employees worldwide.
The Richardson operation focuses primarily on aviation electronics and communications systems for the U.S. military.
“This expansion, made possible through the Texas Enterprise Fund, signifies our continued success and reaffirms our commitment to the Richardson area,” said Clay Jones, chairman, president and chief executive of Rockwell Collins.
Bill Sproull, president of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce, said Rockwell Collins has played a key role in establishing the city’s Telecom Corridor as a technological hub.
