Nokia and IBM Chief Visit India
NEW DELHI, INDIA: Even as the Congress party-led United Progressive Alliance government fights the rising inflation and the storm raised over the nuclear deal, chiefs of two major firms visited the country to guide their companies to more profits.
One was Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, president and chief executive officer of Finland-based handset major, Nokia Corp. Sam Palmisano, chairman of IBM, too was in the country.
During his visit, Kallasvuo stated that Nokia would focus on the rural Indian market.
"India's consumption of mobility is growing at a phenomenal pace and it has the potential to make a major contribution to the country's socio-economic development. Nokia recognizes its responsibility, and our aim will be to try and bring more consumers into the folds of mobility by maximizing value creation."
Meanwhile, Palmisano met prime minister Manmohan Singh on June 23 and "discussed the global economic situation."
Dr Singh was reported to have suggested the need for global consultations between major economies to deal with the current oil crisis.
Palmisano later addressed the IBM staff in India and took part in a gala dinner in Bangalore.
