Liberty likes its stake in DirecTV
Liberty Media Corp. is "bullish" on DirecTV, in which it now holds a 48 percent stake — up from 41 percent when it completed its stock-for-asset swap with News Corp. earlier this year.
That was the message from company president and chief executive Greg Maffei at Friday's shareholders' meeting.
"We're likely to increase our stake to over 50 percent," Maffei said.
He said that telecommunications companies such as AT&T might have an interest in acquiring DirecTV. But he said Liberty isn't interested in giving up its newly acquired asset.
As for Barry Diller's IAC/Interactive Corp., which won a ruling against Liberty in March allowing it to split into five separate companies, Maffei said Liberty received more representation on the boards of the spinoff companies.
