Eight Operators to Take Part in Brazil 3G Auction

Brazilian operators TIM, Brasil Telecom, Vivo, Oi, Claro, Telemig Celular, CTBC and Nextel have submitted applications by the 11 December deadline to participate in the upcoming 3G auction. Anatel will evaluate the applications ahead of the auction scheduled for 18 December. Each region of the country that has more than one interested bidder will have its spectrum auctioned off by the agency. Anatel has divided the country in 11 regions. Each of them will have four 3G spectrum blocks for sale. The regulator expects to raise at least BRL 2.8 billion from the auction.
