AT&T Announces $1-Billion Investment in Global Network Expansion

America’s leading telephone carrier, AT&T Inc., will invest $1 billion this year to expand its networks and services in key global markets, the company reported.

The majority of this investment will take place outside of the U.S., said AT&T Asia Pacific spokesman, Greg Brutus, speaking with reporters in New Delhi, India. Much of the money will be spent on new fiber-optic undersea cables in Asia, and an Ethernet network in Europe and Asia.

In 2007, AT&T spent $850 million outside of the United States, out of a total investment of $18 billion.
