Starbucks, AT&T, and T-Mobile Settle Wi-Fi Collusion Lawsuit
AT&T and Starbucks Corp. have settled a lawsuit alleging that they had colluded to offer free Wi-Fi internet access in coffee shops across the U.S., in violation of an exclusive contract between Starbucks and T-Mobile USA.
“T-Mobile, AT&T and Starbucks have entered into a memorandum of understanding to resolve their disputes and are committed to providing a high quality Wi-Fi experience for customers,” wrote Starbucks spokeswoman, Stacey Krum, in an email statement.
T-Mobile’s lawsuit, filed last week in a New York state court, claimed that Starbucks and AT&T were not abiding by a previous agreement signed by all three companies, over how the coffee chain would transition from its original Wi-Fi contract with T-Mobile to a new partnership with AT&T. T-Mobile revealed at the time that it was seeking unspecified damages for breach of contract and unfair competition.
Terms of the settlement agreement between the three companies were not disclosed.
