Qwest to offer Verizon mobile service

Qwest said that it would begin offering wireless service from Verizon beginning this summer.

Terms of the five-year agreement were not disclosed. Denver-based Qwest currently offers cellular service under its own name, but uses the SprintNextel network.

Earlier this year, Qwest CEO and chairman Ed Mueller said that the company would look for a "retail" partnership with a wireless provider. That would allow Qwest's wireless customers to get the same new model cellphones that are available in retail stores.

We are excited to be partnering with Verizon Wireless and believe this opportunity will enhance the Qwest customer experience," said Mueller in a written statement. "Qwest's strategies for success certainly will benefit from this deal and we look forward to a solid relationship with Verizon Wireless."
