France looks again at 4th 3G licence
France French regulator Arcep has launched a new public consultation on issuing a fourth 3G licence in the 2.1 GHz band. The government last year rejected an offer from ISP Free for the licence, saying its bid was too low. The government has now asked Arcep to look at alternatives, and the regulator presented three options in the consultation. These are dividing the spectrum into multiple lots, with some frequencies for new market entrants and some for existing players; issuing one licence to a new market; and selling numerous lots to any takers. Interested parties can comment until 18 July.
