China ends June with 601 mln mobile users
In the first half of this year, some 53.5 million mobile users entered the market in China, bringing the total mobile user base to 601 million at 30 June, Interfax writes citing the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). In June, the mobile operators added about 8.63 million new users. At the same time, the number of fixed-line telephony users dropped by 2.6 million in June along, and by 9.3 million users in the first half. During the period, 9.6 million users signed up for broadband services bringing the total to 76 million while the number of dial-up users shrunk by 3.5 million.
The number of mobile minutes reached a t total of 1.4 trillion, up 33 percent year-on-year while the number of long-distance fixed calls slipped 14 percent to 43.8 billion. The number of SMSs sent rose 23 percent to 344.1 billion.
Revenues for the total telecommunications industry went up 9.2 percent to CNY 398.8 billion. The mobile business generated revenues of CNY 213.7 billion, up 16 percent year-on-year. Data services generated revenues of CNY 37.4 billion, up 40 percent, and fixed-line local phone services generated CNY 87.9 billion, down 6.4 percent.
